Hondaafushi Island Resort: An Insider's Journey

Hondaafushi Island Resort is a fabulous resort located on Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Having to stay at home, stressed with online classes, my kids suggested a vacation. A tour, that not only relieves us from the stress but also carries us to a destination, filled with heavenly pleasure, mesmerizing beauty, and soothing nature. Undoubtedly, Maldives is one such place with all these qualities.

We, a family of four, planned to visit the Maldives. One of my friends had shared about her family tour experiences at the Maldives prior to the pandemic. They stayed at Hondaafushi island resort. She highlighted her funfilled moments and the hospitality they had received at the resort during their stay. Intrigued by her words, we decided to book our stay there too.

We started our trip from Thiruvananthapuram to Hanimaadhoo International Airport. From there, we had to take a domestic flight. This travel included an approximate 50-minute air journey, followed by a 15-minute speedboat ride to reach the resort. The boat ride was absolutely fun and adventurous. Arriving at the Jetty, we took a  pram since we had luggage and we didn’t want to get tired carrying loads. Two volunteers drove us to the resort.

We booked a Superior beach bungalow with an interconnected room that is compatible with a group or a family. If you are a couple, then you could opt for the Deluxe beach bungalow. The room was sumptuous, yet comfy. It had a King size bed, a wall-mounted Led tv, a work table, a wi-fi connection, two chairs with a tea table, a private sun deck with two lounger chairs, and a semi-open bathroom with a sky-view shower and all necessary toiletries. The interior of the room was absolutely clean and tidy. Our private lounge got us directly to the oceanfront.

After refreshing ourselves, we all headed for breakfast. The spacious, sand-floored restaurant has a classic to exotic buffet menu to relish upon. They have enthusiastic live cooking chefs to serve us with their fresh signature delights.

We filled our plates with french toast, sandwiches, pancake, waffle, omelet, sausage, and fruit salad. The afternoon buffet had a lot of varieties indeed. I had chow mein paired with shrimp stir fry. My children had spaghetti, beef platter and mixed vegetable chop suey. My daughter being a variety eater ordered tofu lettuce wrap and Chilli beef Ramen. My son kept it simple with Pineapple fried rice and BBQ scallop soup. As you can see their menu suits all ages. The food was excellently delicious and the meal ended with tea and juices.

Next, we went to the Tila bar. It had continental wines, cocktails, and juices. We just viewed it. It was an elegant spot to see the alluring sunset, chilling out at the pool. After that, we strolled along the beachside and wetted our feet with the backwash water. My kids had a lot of fun along the soft white sands.

After that, we decided to explore the local Maldivian life. We took a boat and went to the Old Friday Mosque. Maldivian life is mostly related to the ocean. So fishing is their main livelihood. They mainly do Pole Fishing, which is also environmentally friendly. Secondly, we visited The civil coffee society. We learned that they have very good coffee. So, we wanted to try it out and it was undoubtedly amazing. Following that, we visited the local fruit market containing an awesome number of fruits.

Then, we thought to have some fun with water sport activities. As we are non-swimmers we tried stand-up paddleboarding, fun tube rides, canoeing, snorkeling. If you are a swimmer and like to do adventurous water sports, you have a lot of amazing choices like scuba diving, windsurfing and jet skiing.

After having fun at all the water activities, we boarded the boat to experience the alluring sunset and dolphin watching. The boat crew guided us with the traditional reel bottom fishing, we had caught many varieties of fish, and the chefs cooked them for us at dinner. Apart from that, we also relished upon their exotic buffet feast with spaghetti, penne pasta, beacon, steak kebab and many more.

Overall, the trip was amazing and we had one of the best vacations experiences we ever had. Hondaafushi Island Resort is a must-visit destination that is suitable for all kinds of visitors of age groups from all over the world. Don’t miss this alluring experience.
